What is the Moon sign?

The Moon travels the whole zodiac in about twenty-seven days and changes sign roughly every two and a half days. Your Moon sign is simply the sign it was crossing at the instant of your birth. It is calculated from your date, time and place.

Moon sign and Ascendant: not to be confused

The Ascendant is not a body: it is the sign that was rising in the east at your birth, your spontaneous way of approaching the world and the first impression you leave. The Moon sign speaks of your inner world, less visible from the outside.

Do not confuse your Moon sign with your Moon's nakshatra. They are not two names for the same thing: they are two markers calculated in two different frames. The Moon sign is read in the tropical zodiac; the nakshatra, one of the twenty-seven Vedic sectors, is read in the sidereal zodiac, on the fixed stars.
